Nature Photographs of the Year 2015

This exhibition of 40 photographs, including the winners and the works earning second place in each competition category, along with photographs that received an honourable mention, will then continue their tour of Finland.

The Nature Photograph of the Year 2015 was taken by Kainuu-based Antti Leinonen in Kuhmo and is entitled ‘Wait, Mum!’. It’s a magical silhouette of an elk calf following its mother. According to the jury, a photographer rarely experiences such a wonderful moment, which has been perfectly exploited for this photograph. The delicate silhouette of the calf behind its mother, the economy of colour, the careful framing, and the rhythm of the animals’ legs verge on perfection. The photographer has framed a silhouette that both is bold and breaks the rules of conventional composition.

The Nature Photograph of the Year 2015 competition attracted 11,503 entries. The photographs were entered in eight categories, with the most popular being for birds. In total, 40 photographs were awarded prizes or honourable mention. It is these photos that make up the Nature Photograph of the Year exhibition.
