Postal Museum – Marilyn Monroe’s film career in postcards
The philatelist Risto Pitkänen's collection of postcards covers Marilyn Monroe's film career.
In Marilyn's heyday, the printed media were important publicity tools; stories in magazines and newspapers, postcards, posters and various trading cards were the means of marketing both films and their stars. It was often postcards that film studios sent to fans in response to their letters.
The collection features photographs originally taken for various marketing purposes, which were then later printed as postcards. Some cards in the collection are originals, others are reprints.
